Flagship

Chunya–Makongorosi Gold Project

Kasakalawe area, Makongolosi, Chunya District, Mbeya Region. A brownfield gold operation with mining under way since November 2025.

Location and access

The project lies in the historic Lupa Goldfield of south-western Tanzania, about 50 km south-west of Chunya town and about 130 km from Mbeya City. EMJ Company Group reports good road access to the sites.

Mineral rights

The Primary Mining Licences (PMLs) are held by the registered licence holder, who also serves as Site Manager. Afriglobal holds technical-support rights over 18 PMLs under the Technical Support Agreement of 13 November 2025 and its addenda of 19 June and 30 September 2026. Technical support on 10 PMLs is authorised by the Mining Commission (MC/TSA/121-2026); authorisation for the other 8 is being sought. Licence copies are on file for 15 PMLs.

Project sites

  • Kitete: existing shafts and the main ore source.
  • Umoja: site of an existing vat-leach facility.
  • Other PMLs: targeted exploration after title and technical confirmation.

Current operations

Underground mining at the Kitete shafts began in November 2025, after the Mining Commission’s camp and site-clearing approval. The Company recorded 1,190 t of ore extracted from November 2025 to April 2026, with no gold sales in that period. Production and shaft rehabilitation continued from May to September 2026, and in September 2026 the existing shafts were excavated and rehabilitated to a modern standard.

Ore is stockpiled for processing. The Company estimates the stockpile at about 2,000 t (September 2026); this estimate has not yet been surveyed or assayed. The ore will be fed to the existing Umoja vats once the crusher and grinder now being mobilised are in place.

Why Chunya

An established goldfield with infrastructure at site

An established goldfield

Chunya District lies in the Lupa Goldfield, a long-established gold-mining area with active small-scale and larger operations, including Shanta Gold’s New Luika mine.

Infrastructure at site

EMJ’s July 2026 inspections report grid electricity accessible at Umoja, a borehole and nearby water source, good road access and an existing vat-leach operation. These are the consultant’s findings, not an independent technical report.

Incentives in place

TIC Certificate of Incentives No. 2025103132, with an implementation period from 17 October 2025 to 16 October 2028.

Room to grow

The 18 Chunya PMLs and the Mapele area give the Company and its group a base for growth in one goldfield, subject to title, technical confirmation and Mining Commission approvals.
